The ABC schedule is a new change in our school and at Daniel Warren. It is a six-day schedule with one library, one art, one music, and three gym classes. There are positive and negative aspects of the new schedule.

Being in a six-day rotation allows teachers from the middle and high school to be on the same schedule as the elementary schools. With a lot of holidays on Monday, some specials were missed often in the old schedule. At least this year we can’t miss any specials,  which we think is a good change. The way the schedule works is much different from the old one. If we miss a day, we still get that special the next day. This is a good part of the schedule.

Our new schedule makes us unable to have an equal amount of specials per week. We interviewed Mrs. Goodman and she said, “With the new six-day cycle I see my students once every six days which can be challenging, but it is helpful because as a shared staff member (working with different buildings) I am now on the same cycle with every building. My main concern is to keep all the projects that I used to teach within my curriculum,” Mrs. Goodman says. “I would love to have more art within the school week.”

Some students are not happy having gym three times in the six-day rotation. Others believe having gym three times a cycle is a good way to exercise. The third gym was added because we used to have an early morning gym, but it stopped this year because not many people came.

This new schedule doesn’t just affect specials,  it also determines when we have library recess. Every day a letter is posted outside the office to keep everyone informed. It also says what letter day it is on the morning announcements. By now, we usually know what day it is, but it is good to have places that remind us in case we forget. So now you know a little more about the ABC schedule.
