Today we will be interviewing Ms. Carvalho.

  1. What were you doing before you came to F.E. Bellows? I finished my Masters program, in Special Education and Literacy, and was working as a 4th and 5th grade teacher in a private school.
  2. What was your favorite subject in school when you were around 3rd or 5th grade? My favorite subject in school was always Math. When I was done with my work, I would always ask the teacher if I could help other students with their math work.
  3. What was your favorite grade? My favorite grade was 5th grade with Mr. Mullen. He was one of my favorite teachers because he made learning fun. I was also my class representative for student council in that grade so that was exciting.
  4. How long do you plan to stay at Bellows? For as long as they’ll have me. I love it here!
  5. When you were in school did you have 3rd to 5th grade in one school? Yes, my elementary school was a K to 5 school.
  6. What is your favorite book? Choosing only one book is so hard! The Help by Kathryn Stockett is one of my favorites. I also love Jodi Picoult books – for example, House Rules and My Sister’s Keeper.
  7. What were your favorite childhood memories? My parents are from Portugal and most of my family lives there,  so every summer we would spend a month in Portugal. I loved spending time with my family, especially my cousins, who I didn’t get to see often since we were so far away from each other.
  8. Was being a teacher your first choice? Yes, teaching was my first choice. I knew I wanted to be a teacher at a very young age.
  9. What do you want to be doing in five years? I still want to be teaching and I also hope to travel more.
  10. What interests you the most outside of the classroom or F.E Bellows? I love to bake and read when I find the time!
  11. When you were a 5th grader what after school clubs did you join? Well, I didn’t join an after school club,  but I did take ballet and tap dance after school during the week and I loved it, especially when we had to perform in front of all the parents/families,
  12. What age did you decide to become a teacher and why? I was probably around 4 or 5. I used to pretend to teach and read to “my class” when I was playing in my room. I’ve always enjoyed working with children, it always has been and still is a passion of mine.
  13. Did get nervous on your first day? Yes, of course I did. However, everyone was so friendly and nice that my nerves went away quickly!
  14. What is your least favorite subject when you were in school? I honestly didn’t have a least favorite subject from what I remember. I do remember I loved going to school and learning.
  15. What do you love most about teaching as a career? I love getting to know great students every year and watching them grow academically from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.
  16. How do you organize your desk? I am super organized! I try not keep too many things on my desk so it doesn’t get cluttered. I keep my pens/pencils, stapler, post-its, etc. on one corner of my desk and then have my chrome and books on the other side.
