Rye Neck softball has started another exciting season!  The Rye Neck softball games started on March 23, 2019, and will end on May 18, 2019.

The Rye Neck varsity softball team will be led again by their amazing coach, Mrs. Joan Spedafino (Mrs. Sped). Mrs. Sped has been the softball coach for the varsity softball team here at Rye Neck for thirty-four years. Her husband, Mr. Sped, is  helping as an assistant coach this softball season. Keeping the family tradition going, their youngest son Angelo is also volunteering this season. Coming into the 2019 season, Mrs. Sped has 515 team victories. WOW!

The Rye Neck Panthers softball team will look to build off of their successes from last year. In 2018, the Rye Neck softball teacmdid a great job, winning for their league. Last year’s team was led by many players, including Olivia Dunne.  Olivia, among her many accomplishments, won the Con Edison Player of the Week Award.

In addition to leading the varsity softball team, Mrs. Sped also supports the development of youth players in Rye Neck, and runs the softball clinic for pitching and softball skills. I am lucky to have been able to go to Mrs. Sped’s softball clinic for both pitching and softball skills along with many of my classmates and teammates from the Larchmont/Mamaroneck Little League. The pitching clinic was held every Tuesday for four weeks, and the softball skills clinic was held every Saturday for four weeks. All the softball players from the modified, junior varsity and varsity teams helped out with the softball clinic for both pitching and softball skills. The softball players demonstrated how to do warm-ups, stations, pitching stretches, and supported every one of us in learning how to be better players, teammates, and people.

I’m looking forward to another great season, and wishing Rye Neck and Mrs. Sped the best of luck for another winning season!
