In this generation, all sorts of new technology has taken over the world!   One of them is the creation of emojis. An emoji is a digital image or icon that is used to express an idea, emotion, etc. They are sent from one digital device to another.

The new iPhone X has cool new emojis that recognize your facial expression and will base your emoji off of your expression.  According to Apple, the smiley face with tears of joy is the most popular emoji. The heart emoji, heart eye emoji, face with stuck out tongue emoji and winking eye emoji also are also really popular. Nowadays, people don’t even have to speak the same language or even know how to read to communicate with each other!

At 11:44 a.m. on September 19, 1982 a man named Scott E. Fahlman hit three keys on his keyboard: a colon, a hyphen and a parenthesis (making a sideways smiley face) and BOOM! The emoticon was created :-). He wrote: “I propose the following character sequence for joke markers.”  There are now 2,666 official emojicons. There were just 722 emojicons in 2015. Also, you can now change the hair, skin and eye color in people emojis. With just a long click of a button, you get a variety of facial looks to choose from!

More than five billion emojis are sent daily on Facebook Messenger alone! You probably did not know that emojicons were invented in 1999, but not regularly used until 2011! Emojicons have taken over this world by storm and are an interesting way for people of our generation to communicate!
