April, the giraffe, welcomed another baby calf at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York. She delivered the baby boy giraffe in front of a global audience on YouTube!  Oliver and April welcomed the healthy calf on March 16, 2019!

This is Oliver the giraffe’s first calf and April’s fifth. April’s pregnancy lasted for more than a year – fifteen months!   Baby giraffes can stand on their own less than an hour after birth, and can be up to six feet tall at birth to less than an hour after the birth.  About 300,000 viewers tuned into the live stream of its birth. After fans cast their votes a team chose to honor one of the top twenty selections – and named him Azizi.   

In February of 2017, April first became famous when she delivered a male calf  during a viral live stream! About 1.2 million viewers were watching the live feed of April giving birth on YouTube.  By the time the camera shut off, they had 232 million viewers. The GoFundMe fundraiser set an original goal for $50,000, but received more than $135,000 by the time the calf was born.  An online contest named this male calf Tajiri. The money was used to offset the annual care for the animals and to upgrade the giraffe exhibit.

The population of giraffes has gone down almost 40% in the past three decades.  The world welcomes the healthy baby giraffe!
