A baby snow leopard made its debut at the Bronx Zoo in October!   The new “baby ghost”  cub’s name is Khyber.  Khyber was born in the summer in the Himalayan Highlands exhibit.

They call snow leopards a “ghost cat”  because their pale gray coats allow them to easily blend into rocks and snow. Did you know that snow leopards are mostly found in Asia, China, Mongolia, Russia, and Bhutan.

Khyber is the second generation offspring of a famous snow leopard named Leo.  She was not weighed immediately after being born.  After staying closely by her Mom for five weeks, she was finally weighed.   They considered her a heavy cub for her age. Her Mom’s name is Kto. Khyber eats all different kinds of meat, but her favorite is raw chicken.

Khyber is now about eight months old. When Khyber gets older she will not get anymore spots. Snow leopard’s can live for up to twenty years in captivity. Her Mom is twelve years old.  Leo is Khyber’s Grandpa.  This is Khyber’s story!
